Laurie Colahan

Wednesday, January 10 to Sunday, April 21, 2024

Artist Laurie Colahan has been working with the creative process all her life. After retiring from teaching in 2018 she started spending more time painting, working mostly with watercolor and mixed media and moving between floral, nature, and abstracts. Laurie's artwork will be on display at the Cedar Roe branch until April 21, 2024.

How has teaching influenced your art practice?

Teaching has influenced my practice for sure. I love to learn new things.  Local classes, YouTube, etc.

What’s the most challenging thing about your creative process?

The most challenging thing about my creative process is starting. Figuring out how & what to do and what message I want to send …so many choices and outcomes. Sometimes a painting inspires me to create a series. I want to develop my own style. I know I’m not there yet; however, it is my challenge.

What is your most important artist tool? Is there something you can’t live without in your studio?

My most important artist tools are the right brushes. Quality paint is a close second.
