I think one of the best things about being human is our appreciation of fine food and sharing meals. Not surprisingly, I adore movies about cooking. So when Chef came to theaters last year I was intrigued. My husband and I went to our favorite local theater and were immediately hooked by the vivid colors on the screen accompanied by bright Latin pop booming over the speakers.
The film is about a brilliant but hot-tempered chef who has lost his family on his journey to greatness. Despite their past grievances, he still has an excellent relationship with his ex-wife (played by the very charming Sofia Vergara) and they share a preteen son who wants nothing more than to spend time with his workaholic dad. When the Chef storms out of the creatively stifling restaurant he once loved, his ex-wife comes to the rescue with a food truck connection. After a little cleanup and the creation of a new menu, father and son embark on an epic road trip across country. Seasoned with dance party-worthy music, food you can almost taste on the screen, and a charming family story, this film is one for the foodie lovers’ must-see list. Warning: have a fulfilling meal planned before watching because this film will make you hungry!
If you are inspired to delve into the genre further, I created a Foodie Film list here.
