Sanders is a passionate, self-taught visual artist based in Kansas City, MO. Beginning to paint in 2016 as an outlet to express suppressed emotions, Sanders primarily creates with acrylic and oil paint on canvas and wood, digital art, and murals. The artist is dedicated to creating work that evokes emotion within the viewer, translates the emotion of the subject and leaves a lasting impact. Sanders has always been fascinated by people and the stories of their lives and is sensitive to what is not being said – their emotions and inner workings. Much of the artist’s works consist of powerful and moving figurative paintings that depict the broad spectrum and complexity of Black existence and emotion. As portrayals of the artist’s culture through images of joy, gentleness, and peace, the paintings are full of vibrant colors, blended brush strokes, and bold standout brush strokes. For Sanders, the colors are a translation of emotion; brush strokes are an expression of our complexity, our harmonious emotions, and our conflicted dualities. The grounding effect of nature and the interconnectedness between people and elements are common themes in the work. Sanders’ intention is always to uplift, empower and connect people through art.
