We are especially pleased to highlight the work of members of The Wyandotte Art Association as they mark the celebration of their 50th Anniversary this year. This group of artists has been sharing their art and helping to educate residents of Wyandotte County since 1965. The group is made up of members of all ages, including one 92-year-old who has been a part of the group since its founding.
The association’s current president, Jane Nichols, says, “ The group is interested in exploring just what constitutes art and also sharing with others that there are many avenues to art.” The current members are interested in a broad range of art, including painting, drawing, sculpting, etching, air brushing and fiber arts. Group members routinely take part in demonstrations at schools and venues throughout the county and are regularly represented at art shows around the metro area. They recently had a month-long exhibit honoring their 50th anniversary at the Alcott Arts Center on 18th St. in Kansas City, KS.
The association is always interested in gaining new membership and prospective members need not be a resident of Wyandotte County to join. The group meets throughout the year at the Security Bank building at 8th and State in Kansas City, KS.
