Kansas City, MO, artist Spenser Albertsen’s paintings are influenced by the “grand gestures, the texture, the bright, almost invasive color palates” of modern and postmodern art. Albertsen, who attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and graduated with a major in Studio Fine Arts, sees these medium to large-scale stylized portraits as expressions of his subject’s apparent “self-confidence and self-identification.” In his own words, Albertsen’s work explores “the innate differences between the dynamic of the pull and shove between the material and immaterial, the sexualized, and the sexually sterile.”
Albertsen has exhibited in several group and solo shows in the Midwest, including 19-Below Gallery, Cellar Rat Gallery, Apex Gallery and Gown Gallery in Kansas City.
