Weekly branch Storytimes have paused, but not for long, as we gear up for another year of Summer Reading fun in June and July - Adventure Begins at Your Library! We traditionally offer more programs for ages 6-12 in the Summer months because those students are out of school and frequenting the library on a more regular basis. Our free book giveaway also draws in families of all ages to our 14 branches.
Weekly, in-person Storytimes at branches will resume in Fall 2024. Keep an eye on our Events page, printed Program Guide, or pick up a flyer at your nearest branch for specific dates and times. You can also virtually tune in anytime, any place with our Storytime OnDemand playlist.
Explore exciting opportunities to hear local storytellers, musicians, and apply the 6 by 6 Early Literacy skills on our Events page. We’ll also be partnering with Lenexa Farmer’s Market for Outdoor Family Storytimes through the month of June. Registration is required for most other Summer Reading programs, but we encourage you to join the waitlist for any full programs that interest you and your family and keep them on your calendar. Registrations typically drop off significantly, especially closer to the dates of the programs. We'll also be welcoming walk ins, should individuals registered not show up for Summer Reading programs.
Space is limited at our in-person Storytimes and we do not accept advanced registration. We encourage patrons to come early and visit the Questions desk to pick up a free ticket when you arrive. You can also virtually tune in anywhere, anytime at our Storytime OnDemand playlist.
We offer Storytime varieties carefully planned based on a child’s age group and developmental abilities. If you have children in different age groups, we encourage you to join us for a Family Storytime or the variety best suited for the youngest child. Older siblings are always welcome. Each child is unique, but we recommend the following ages for the different Storytime varieties:
