You might remember my appreciation for last year's Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. She has a graphic novel coming out this fall called The Night Bookmobile and I think it looks every bit as mysterious and wonderful as her last book. The Night Bookmobile was originally serialized in the Guardian (UK). If you link through, be sure to page back and start from the beginning. It's the story of a woman who encounters a strange Winnebago as she's out walking one night... full of all the books she loved through her life, even her childhood diaries. It amazes her and shocks her -- but when she returns to the corner the next night to browse again, the Night Bookmobile is gone. Her yearning to reconnect with the books she had loved causes pain in her personal life, and by the time she find the Night Bookmobile again, in front of Wrigley Field, nine years have passed. This is a great story for anyone who treasures the stories of their own life, and the stories they encounter in books. Also published in Zoetrope (first page free online). Thanks to my Twitter friend @wsstephens for pointing this out to me! It's always great to discover something new by an author you enjoy reading.
