Burn by Nevada Barr

Burn by Nevada BarrAnna Pigeon is back for a somewhat different tale of adventure and suspense. She’s not in a National Park this time, but visiting a friend in New Orleans for some R and R after her more recent traumas. Anna becomes caught up in the dark and ugly world of child trafficking. Clare, a Seattle actress, in one evening experienced the burning of her house, seeing the dead body of her husband and learning of the disappearance of her two young daughters. She is thought to be the murderer and arsonist, so she makes her escape, changes her identity, and follows clues to the Crescent City in a desperate search for her children. Sometimes difficult to read, Barr has once again crafted a page-turner.

This book was named one of the best books of the first decade of the 21st century. It is a quick read and it is a little surprising that it is not included in the science fiction category.
