With the exception of Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer (which was excellent) and an assortment of travel books, cookbooks and self-help books (that I never finish), I do NOT do non-fiction. I am a fiction mystery reader with medical and legal thrillers thrown in. I enjoy a fast, exciting read and that is exactly what Jon Bowermaster gave me. This is an exciting adventure from cover to cover. Four men spend a month in the Aleutian Islands of the Bering Sea kayaking the five Islands of Four Mountains. The history was fairly well detailed and very interesting (and I don’t do history either). The descriptions of the sea, sky, mountains, rain, wind, cold, flora and wildlife are wonderful. I read it in a couple of days because the action kept me wanting to read more. I only regret that Bowermaster didn’t elaborate more on the individuals and characters. I would like to have known these men a little more personally. I recommend this one.
