In the 18th Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, Laurell K. Hamilton gets back to the basics of what made Anita so popular. Anita, also an animator of zombies, has to turn down a client who has unrealistic ideas about raising his deceased wife as a zombie and taking her home. Anita tries to explain why this wouldn’t be a good idea but the client, Tony Bennington, has more money than sense when it comes to raising his wife from the dead. Anita refuses him and he leaves apparently sad but resigned. Anita also sees another client that same day who also offers exorbitant funds for raising her dead husband so she can kill him again because she found out he was cheating on her. Anita again refuses and the client leaves in a huff. After such a trying morning Anita lunches with three of her boyfriends and practices her flirting skills on them and the waiter.
Lunching alone a few days later Anita is kidnapped by a couple of shapeshifters who threaten to kill her boyfriends if she doesn’t comply with their employer's wishes. They have been hired to make sure that Anita will raise their employer's spouse from the grave. Which client was willing to go to such lengths to see their spouse again?
