A group novel? Sounds like an exercise in egos, inner-circles, and bad writing to me. But I’d heard Kevin Rabas read his poetry, and read a little bit on my own as well. So, despite my reservations, I gave Green Bike a try and was pleasantly surprised.
Rabas, Graves, and Simmons started Green Bike as a private Facebook page using a green bike as a McGuffin. Rabas and Graves tell interweaving stories of girlfriends and boyfriends, lovers and professors. It's a slice of life in a college town and it’s a wonder, really. While Simmons' story remains independent of the other two, it is no less marvelous, touching, and real.
I am charmed by Green Bike and fascinated by a project I would have deemed unsustainable.
