The Partner's Guide to Asperger Syndrome by Susan Moreno

Dec 9, 2012

The authors, all with extensive experience in working with individuals with ASD, interviewed over 100 couples in which one partner has ASD and the other is non-spectrum (NS) in an effort to provide insight and guidance to those NS partners in creating a successful relationship for both parties.  While most of the advice in  The Partner's Guide to Asperger Syndrome is directed at the NS spouse, there are also tips for parents, friends, and professionals on how to support the couple in maintaining a positive relationship that works for both parties.  Each chapter ends with a list of "lessons learned" from couples interviewed.

Tony Attwood's foreword highlights potential relationship problems that individuals diagnosed with ASD typically encounter.  The authors cover many topics including communication, social skills, sensory processing, and provide many quotes from the couples they interviewed that bring the situations to life.
