In Book Boot Camp we introducing a new genre each month. During the month of April we're looking at Romance.
Stories of adventure and love existed during the earliest times, and those from the Middle Ages came to be called romances as they were written in the Roman, or romance, languages derived from Latin. Today, true romance is more than a story about love. While there are many, many stories about love, to qualify as a true romance a story has to have a happy ending with the two characters ending up together. Because Rhett doesn’t give a damn, Gone with the Wind is NOT a romance. It’s historical fiction that is at times romantic. Get the difference?
People read romance for entertainment and to escape the demands of living in this world. It’s the comfort of knowing everything will work out in the end that draws romance readers back to this genre again and again.
