This is an extraordinary story about an extraordinary man. In May 1943, an Army Air Forces Bomber crashed into the Pacific. One of three survivors was Lieutenant Louis Zamperini. Louis had been an incorrigible child until as a teenager his efforts were channeled into running. His talent and prodigious effort took him to the Berlin Olympics in 1936. That determination would be tested again and again in the months following the crash. He would face thousands of miles of open ocean, starvation, thirst, enemy aircraft and much worse. Hillenbrand’s descriptive text keeps the reader on edge
