Worth Dying For: a Reacher Novel by Lee Child

Aug 1, 2012

Lee Child is one of the more popular authors writing today.  I have only read a few of his novels.  I have enjoyed them and I question why I haven’t read more.  Jack Reacher, the main character in Child’s very popular series, is a strange and multifaceted man.  The more you read about him the more you learn about him but he still remains an enigma.  In Worth Dying For, Jack finds himself in a small town in Nebraska, a town that is run by the Duncan clan.  While staying at the only motel in town he gets to know the innkeeper and the sole patron of the motel bar….the local doctor.  He is hitching his way to Virginia and, without a car he is stuck in this small town for a while.  He soon becomes involved in the town dynamics.  The wife of the youngest Duncan is being beaten by her husband, Seth.  The elder Duncans, along with Seth, are involved in some sort of activity that has two different mafia groups in town demanding the next ‘shipment’.  This is a fast and fascinating read.  I highly recommend it.  Keep in mind that you do not have to read the Reacher series in any order.  Jack is strange in all of them….but in a neat kind of way.
