Because of Mr. Terupt is a novel written by Rob Buyea. The start of fifth grade is here for kids at Snow Hill School. You have your typical set of characters including Jessica, who is new; Peter, class clown; Luke, the smart kid; Alexa, the bully; etc. A normal teacher would have a hard time keeping up with all of them, but not Mr. Terupt. Mr. Terupt is a new teacher who takes a unique approach to his classroom. Instead of the standard curriculum taught by most teachers, he challenges his students based on their characteristics. This proves successful as his students start to improve. Things all fall apart when Mr. Terupt falls into a coma. Will his students be able to handle themselves while their teacher is absent?
I personally loved this book the first time I read it, and the second time around it was just as good. My only critique would be that it was slightly unrealistic in some ways. Other than that, this is a wonderful read and I would recommend it especially to younger audiences.
