Tobias Hawthorne, a billionaire, dies and instead of leaving his fortune to his blood relatives, he leaves it to Avery Grambs, an ordinary teenager. In order to claim her inheritance, Avery must move into his mansion which is filled with secret passages and riddles. The twist is that the relatives of Tobias Hawthorne, who all thought they would inherit his fortune, have to live in the mansion too.

Avery Kylie Grambs, a high schooler, is focused on making it into college and out of her sister's house, when she finds out that the mysterious billionaire Tobias Hawthorne left her his entire fortune and estate. Except she had never met him before. This came with the stipulation that she had to live on the estate for a year. The same estate that his family lived at, who had just found out they were left nothing.
The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes gives us more insight on the mysterious Hawthorne-Grambs investigation that we waited for ever since reading The Inheritance Games. With the incoming news that Tobias’s brother might not be dead after all, Avery and the Hawthorne grandsons are thrown into another reckless trek to find out more information.
15-year-old Frannie is dealing with the death of her father when she discovers that he had made her a 1000-piece puzzle. Frannie is then suddenly transported back in the past to learn more about her father.
I personally did not like this book. It felt way longer than it should have been. This book did not flow very well and felt fragmented. The plot seemed odd also, considering how she randomly traveled back to the past. I didn’t really like the characters either, they did not seem very redeeming. I would rate this book a 2/5.
