The Outsiders is a lovely short coming of age book. We read from the point of view of
Ponyboy Curtis who lives with his brothers Sodapop and Darry. Ponyboy’s family and
others from his part of town are a part of a gang called “Greasers”. And have a Rivalry
with the Socs who are more richer, sophisticated and snobbish then the Greasers. The
Socs and the Greasers are constantly at war due to their differences. One night
Ponyboys and his friends find their worlds turned upside down when Ponyboy has to flee
his hometown for his own safety. I thought that this book was a wonderful classic that
everyone should have a chance to read. S.E. Hinton did a fantastic job capturing each of
the boys' diverse feelings. I recommend this book to people who enjoy a quick but
meaningful read.
