Born a Crime, written by Trever Noah is quite wry, but it is hard-hitting. tribute to Noah’s mother, a deeply religious woman of unfathomable bravery. Trever Noah is one my favorite comedians. The book is a tribute to Noah’s mother, a deeply religious woman of unfathomable bravery. Born in apartheid, Noah was exposed to violence from a young age, and his autobiography covers many of the dangerous situations he faced as the child of a black Xhosa woman and a white Swiss man in a country which forbade interracial unions.
I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to just about anyone who likes a good read. My views about apartheid is almost as a straightforward conflict between black and white, similar to segregation in the USA. South Africa is a country of huge ethnic diversity, and apartheid did not so much split the population as fracture it into myriad competing classes and subgroups – the epitome of divide and conquer. I would rate this book 5/5 and my opinion about this book is that it will engage readers much more than they think.
