“Always leave a way out, unless you really want to find out how hard a man can fight when he’s nothing to lose.”

Danger creeps in when the villains of the past form an alliance to defeat their main enemy, Rand. Meanwhile, attacks are coming in everywhere, and the group fights shadowspawns and other monsters constantly. How can the group face their newest challenge?

The fifth book in the Wheel of Time series, The Fires of Heaven tested my patience more that the four previous ones. Apart from the title (the only high point for me) this book was likely my least favorite of the series. It was especially disappointing because my favorite one came directly before this one. By this point, I felt that I had a pretty solid grasp on the world itself, so there was no more fun lore building (some things were also spoiled for me by my stepfather). I’m not super attached to any of the characters from the series, but the only character that I really felt anything for wasn’t in this book, (Perrin my beloved) which was a major contributor to my lower rating. For spoiler warnings I can’t tell you what else they did, but it’s safe to say I am not pleased with how they treated many of the characters. I stand by the fact that I am glad I read it, I checked it off my list and never have to do so again, but even as a die-hard fantasy fan, this book wasn’t for me. Honestly, I wouldn’t fault anyone for dropping the series here, as I likely would have had it not been for the desire to finish it and make my stepfather happy. 3 out of 5 stars.
