Life As We Knew It follows Miranda, a high school girl, as she lives through a world without the moon. As the world discovers a meteor is on a collision course with the moon, everyone watches with interest, but little concern. In a split second everything falls apart as the moon is unpredictably knocked out of orbit. When the world falls into chaos and the planet begins to crumble, Miranda struggles with guilt, responsibility, and hope as she navigates the new world she must survive in. Life As We Knew It shows how strong relationships can be, even under the worst of circumstances.
I really enjoyed how this book incorporated accurate scientific elements, but also maintained a focus on everyday life and what might realistically happen in such a scenario. I felt that the characters were very deep, and it was easy to connect and relate to them. However, This book is written through Miranda's diary entries, and I would have liked to see some other characters' perspectives. I rated this book 3 stars because I believe it's an impactful story with a strong plotline, however I would like to see more perspective and more excitement. This is a great book for people interested in what I would call “emotional” science fiction.
