I originally read this book having no background about it. I only learned about the reason for the narrator's emotionless monologue or his epiphany near the end of the book after I had finished reading it. Because of this I don't feel right deducting stars due to my own confusion about the purpose of the book. The Stranger follows a man named Meursault. I can't give much without spoiling the book, but it delves into his psyche after events in his life, some traumatic, some loving. Throughout them all he is very monotone and indifferent. The book deals with absurdism and honestly was a very good read. It got me sitting and thinking about Camus’s philosophy after I finished the book. It was very interesting to see a narrator like Meursault, since they aren't very common in books. The way he focuses on the weather in the middle of his mother’s funeral or describes his dates with his girlfriend in emotionless robotic recollection show an interesting perspective on life that I enjoyed. Overall, I enjoyed the book, there wasn't anything I didn't like. It was a short novella and a quick read, it only took me a day to finish, very short and straight to the point.
