Verity, by Colleen Hoover, is a suspenseful romance novel and a stand-alone book.

Verity follows Lowen Ashleigh as she is a ghost writer for esteemed author, Verity Crawford.

Lowen was on the edge of bankruptcy, searching for freelance writing jobs all while trying to

finish her book. Her lucky break came when the husband of Verity, Jeremy Crawford, called to

ask her to finish verity’s ongoing series after she suffered a major injury. Bed-ridden, Verity was

unable to continue writing and that is where Lowen comes in. She moved into the Crawford

house, where her stay was filled with unusual sounds and even more unusual stories about the

Crawford family. In this thrilling novel, Colleen Hoover paints an eerie picture as she documents

Lowen’s journey and if the Crawfords are really who they say they are.

Verity uses Lowen’s narration as she figures out how to write for Verity Crawford. We find out

new information as Lowen is as well, piecing together the story in our minds as well as in

Lowen’s mind. This effective strategy gives insight into her mind. It makes the novel easier to

understand and therefore, more appealing to audiences. Though the way it was written is

appealing, the plot itself falls short. As the book goes on, it becomes more predictable and less

suspenseful. The novel quickly loses steam and falls short of expectations. Overall, the book

was enjoyable initially but tends to fall short of its promises in the end.
