After her sister is chosen to compete in the annual Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her place. The Hunger Games consist of two teenagers, from each of the twelve districts of Panem, entering the games where they fight to the death until there is one survivor, who becomes the victor.
I enjoyed this book. It's taken me a while to finally read it but I'm glad I did. Previously I had only seen the movie but the book just added so many more details and scenes that I loved. There was a new depth added to the characters. This book is a classic, it’s violent and sad but seeing the messed-up world that was created leaves one to think of the society they live in. It left me thinking about our society today and the similarities and differences between it and the one in the book. I recommend this book to ages thirteen and older who like dystopian novels and strong female leads.
