Crooked Kingdom is the sequel to Six of Crows, the story of six teenagers with extremely different backgrounds united for a common cause: conducting a heist. After the effects of all the events that occurred in previous weeks, the crows have a lot to deal with. Despite being successful with the heist, they are all exhausted and weakened by their efforts. Jurda Parem, the drug that amplifies the powers of Grisha, is still all around, and the crows aren’t the only ones trying to get their hands on it.
In their attempts to get their way while still maintaining a somewhat balanced peace with enemies, Kaz and his crew fight battles that could be considered part of a larger war. They discover secrets never uncovered before and learn truths that they never thought they would hear. Everything they go through threatens and tests the loyalty they have with each other. It almost seems like the fate of the world rests in the hands of these six teenagers.
I rate Crooked Kingdom five out of five stars. As someone who enjoys young adult fantasy with complex world-building, detailed descriptions and unique powers and abilities, I thought Crooked Kingdom was the perfect sequel to Six of Crows. The duology together is crafted through Leigh Bardugo’s talented writing and a plot that makes this book hard to put down. This is my favorite book series that I have ever read, and I believe that this sequel somehow managed to be even more appealing than Six of Crows. I highly recommend this series to all who enjoy young adult fantasy, and I think that this book ends the amazing series in a complete, satisfactory way.
