This sequel to The Way of Kings continues to follow the paths of Kaladin, Shallan, and Adolin while also introducing new characters to the story. As Kaladin adapts to his new position in the society of Dalinar’s war camp, he finds it hard to adjust but is held by his word to act as a bodyguard for the royal family. Kaladin learns more about his abilities in this book as he bonds more with Syl along with how to fight against the Assassin in White threatening the life of the king. Shallan on the other hand, devotes herself to her studies with her new knowledge about Voidbringers, with the intent to save everyone’s fate. In general this book is truly a sequel that carries the story to new heights with all the same juicy stuff you’d expect from Brandon Sanderson.

At first, it kind of took me a while to get into the book, but once I got into it, man, it was awesome (very eloquent of me, I know, but I felt this was the best term to use). I loved all the twist and turns you normally get from this series, but I especially loved all of the fighting scenes in this book. If you thought that the fight scenes in book 1 were good, just wait till you read this one. While this book is about equally as long as the first book, the pacing is incredible as once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. The amount of character and world development and lore this book is filled with it pretty insane. Overall, this was a pretty epic, amazing, scrumptious, whatever you want to call it book and did not disappoint.

I strongly recommend this to anyone who has read The Way of Kings but honestly, if you aren’t dying to read this book after reading the first... well I don’t quite know what to tell you.
