Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros is a fast-paced, action-packed, dramatic fantasy thriller with an explosive romance plot. Violet Sorrengail is a young and upcoming girl, but also happens to be the daughter of the leader of the dragon-riding section of society. Violet had planned to become a scribe, safe in the libraries. However, her mother has other plans. Violet is forced to go through the extremely dangerous dragon rider trainings and challenges. She is worried that she is too small and weak to ever accomplish anything like her mother before her in that field. When she begins this difficult journey, she reconnects with an old friend, Dain. Dain was her childhood friend and wants nothing more than to protect her. However, Xaden Riorson has a different idea. He is wing leader, and pushes Violet to do things she never thought possible. She also never thought possible that she would catch feelings for the dark man who made her life miserable.
I love this book, but it is a little similar to other fantasy books out on the market. Violet is also a teensy bit annoying when she goes on and on about how small and weak she is. However, Xaden is good at beating it out of her (in a training way). I also enjoyed the plot with dragons in the book, and how fierce the dragons and people protect each other. There is also an aspect of the dragon riders having powers enhanced by their dragons, which is very cool to read about. Overall, this book is an exciting read.
