“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” Hundreds of years after William Shakespeare’s death, and audiences are still entranced by his plays. Hamlet is no exception, as it is regarded as one of the greatest plays of all time. The book is about how the young Prince of Denmark (Hamlet) reacts when he discovers the life-changing news that, not only is the King (Hamlet’s father) dead, but his mother has married the Claudius, the King’s brother, and Claudius is now king. Hamlet is all about the young Prince’s tragic downfall as he becomes obsessed with death and plans to avenge his father’s murder. This play has some of the best writing you will ever see, as evident with how people view Shakespeare’s characters in Hamlet. While some might find the dialogue hard to read (the play is mostly written in iambic parameter and is 75% verse), those who appreciate Shakespeare’s efforts will certainly look at the dialogue as one of the best parts of the book. All in all, I think it’s safe to say that Hamlet is one of the most important and greatest tragedies ever written.
