Legacy by Shannon Messenger is the eighth book in the Keeper of the Lost Cities fantasy series. In this book, Sophie and her friends are done with the lies. If the leaders of their world won’t give them the truth, they will find it themselves. When new truths are brought to light, Sophie must wonder who is still on her side. When she discovers her abilities are not everything she once thought they were, she knows she must risk it all to protect her friends. However, just because she has special abilities, that doesn’t mean she can protect everyone. With tensions once again rising between the Intelligent Species, dangerous forces at play, and no room for error, Sophie and her friends must fight with everything they have left. But, as their forces get weaker, it may not be enough to protect those who are in the most danger. I liked how this book gave more of the minor characters bigger roles. I also love how throughout the book we are left with cliffhangers and questioning some of the character’s true motives.
