When I was first introduced to this book, I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did when I actually read it. The whole plot and the characters were quite unique. The story starts out with introducing the main character, Jacob (Jake) Portman who was a kid who was socially inept. When Jake’s grandfather mysteriously dies from what Jake thinks was a monster, he ends up going on an adventure to find out the truth about his grandfather’s past. He finds out that his grandfather was involved with strange things, stranger than he thought. He had been told stories about peculiar children from his grandfather, and he ends up finding out all the secrets behind those children.
This book was a really good read and I liked the whole time-traveling concept. The other concept of the book was something that wasn’t quite horror, but still very chilling. I feel like it was written to be haunting, creepy, and really strange to the point where it’s a bit scary and puts a chill down your spine. There are a lot of pictures in this book to support this concept throughout the book, that aren’t exactly graphic, but were quite creepy to me personally. I actually liked this a lot, even though it was a bit creepy. But, if you don’t like these kinds of things, then I don’t recommend this book for you. I think that a lot of tweens or teenagers would like this book if they are interested in things like time-travel, kinds with superpowers, etc. Overall, I really recommend this thrilling and exciting book, and I’m really excited to read “Hollow City”!
