Thunderhead is a young-adult dystopian novel. It is the second book in the Arc of a Scythe trilogy by Neal Shusterman. After Citra’s victory at the end of the first novel, she is now a junior scythe under Scythe Curie. Now faced with the corruption infiltrating the scythedom, Citra is forced to take desperate measures to fight against the dangers in the system. Meanwhile, Rowan is dealing with the corruption in his own way, putting dishonorable scythes through his own trials. With their world at risk, Citra and Rowan must overcome the evil of the “new order scythes.”
"Thunderhead" is a worthy successor to the first novel. Featuring the same twists and turns, the novel separates itself from the previous by including journal entries from the Thunderhead, the all-seeing AI that controls the world of Scythe and by building out the world even further. While it starts a bit slower than its predecessor, Thunderhead makes up for it with an enthralling second half and a cliffhanger that will shock readers. I recommend this book to anyone who has read Scythe. I rate this book 5 stars.
