Unlocked by Shannon Messenger is #8.5 in the Keeper of The Lost Cities fantasy series. The first half of
the book is bonus material. It contains summaries of all the major characters, extra bits of information
from the Lost Cities, portraits, and much more. The second half of the book is the novella. The novella
alternates between Sophie and Keefe’s perspectives. In the novella, Keefe is recovering and struggling to
understand the changes to his abilities after the attack in Loamnore. With no one knowing what the
Neverseen truly want, he must wonder if this is the edge up they needed. When Sophie and her friends
make groundbreaking new discoveries, they must figure out what to do with that information. And,
when members of the Black Swan begin thinking like the Neverseen, tensions begin to rise. Sophie and
Keefe are both forced to wonder if maybe it's time to be reckless and make some bold moves. Will the
results end in victory? Or, will everything they have been working towards go up in flames? I like that
this book alternated between Sophie and Keefe’s perspectives. It helped to add more to the story. I also
enjoyed getting never-before seen details of the world of the Lost Cities in the first half of the book.
