Adelina Amoutera, the White Wolf, has suffered greatly. Her mother? Dead. Her horrible father? Killed by her. Her so-called-friends? Betrayed her. Her sister? Alive, and fleeing Kennetra with Adelina. On a path of revenge, she unites other Young Elites to rid the Inquisition Axis, who killed her love and almost her. Terena Santora, leader of the Inquisition, is hunting her down. The Dagger Society, her former friends? Hunting her down. It’s only a matter of time before she gets caught. However, Adelina is a master of illusions. She won’t stop at nothing to get what she wants, nor will her shadows let her.

The Rose Society by Marie Lu is one of my all-time favorites. I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this book, but I’ll try.  It’s a literary masterpiece. Marie Lu sendsAdelina on a path of self-destruction, greed, revenge, and search for power. The thoughts inside her head consume her, and the people around her are worried. She’s badass, strong, and not your typical YA heroine. The best part is that she’s not the hero. She’s the villain. The protagonist is the VILLAIN. YES. YES. AND YES. TAKE ALL OF MY MONEY. Adelina is twisted, and unlike most stories where the characters go through self-growth and bettering, she does the opposite. It’s a story about self-destruction, trauma, and revenge. Beautifully written as well.

The transition from her, in the first book, as a follower, naive, innocent, and confused to her now, a leader, dangerous, cunning, and ruthless, is astonishing. Not to mention the beautiful settings. I swear at times I could imagine the scenes being made into a movie. It’s great, and there is lots of world building as well.

Magiano is our new love interest for this book. He’s infamous, and a trickster. His biggest weakness is his greed. A common theme in this book is our weaknesses. Everyone has one, no matter how strong they may be. Everyone can see what’s going on between him and Adelina, but alas she destroys this all because of two things. She’s still morning the stupid prince, and she believes Magiano only stays in the Rose Society because of his thirst of the queen’s gold. Of course this makes their relationship more complicated, but all the much better. It’s not perfect, happy-go-lucky, and everyone has problems they need to work out first.

“He cares for you, you know. Magiano. I’ve seen him standing guard outside your door, making sure you aren’t having another nightmare or an illusion.”

It’s absolutely gorgeous.

Read the books right now. You won’t regret it.

Also we have a lgbtq+ representation! YES, LETS GO! Raffael, not a big fan of him but no one’s bad or good in this book, is desperately in love with Enzo. He will do anything for him. It’s so heartbreaking watching what happens to them.

In conclusion, a great book, absolutely amazing. Marie Lu is a phenomenal writer, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I recommend this to people who are in-love with castles, royalty, powers, unions, and badass characters.
