Jessica is looking forward to her senior year of high school in small town Pa. This is supposed to be the best year of her life, hang out with friends, get into a good college, and possibly get her first kiss. But everything goes horribly wrong on the first day of school when she is surprised by a creepy guy hanging out at the bus stop, crazy hippie parents won't give her a car. She swears she can hear him whisper her name before she gets on the bus, but it isn't the name Jessica, it is Antastasia, the name she was given as a baby by her birth parents.
Jessica's day gets worse when the same creepy guy shows up in English class and then proceeds to follow her home. He introduces himself to her and her parents as Lucious Vladescu, Romanian, Vampire, Prince. Lucious tells them not to worry he is just here to marry Jessica and take her back to Romania to turn her into a vampire! Jessica, a very logical person, can't get her mind around be betrothed to someone, let alone someone who thinks they are a mythical creature!
Hilarity, romance and heartbreak ensue! This is the book Twilight should have been! Brief, romantic, funny but at the same time very serious and engaging. Jessica and Lucious' relationship is gripping and realistic, and happily no demon babies here! I would happily recommend this to anyone who disliked Twilight but still loves a good vampire tale. I would even recommend this to Twilight fans in the hopes of helping them to see the light.
