Anthony Bridgerton is a young viscount in his late twenties, as well as the eldest in the eight-sibling Bridgerton family. As the head of the family, Anthony is plagued by immense responsibility in keeping the viscountcy together, marrying his sisters off, and providing for his family. This pressure of exceeding responsibility lies in a past that he is unable to overcome. Falling in love–or more accurately– wanting to fall in love is a phenomenon he wants to avoid at all costs. Yet, this mindset comes into question when he meets the spinster Kate Sheffield. Both stubborn and bold, Kate and Anthony thoroughly infuriate one another. Nevertheless, what arises between them is an attraction neither one can deny.

With the hit show Bridgerton being so popular, I became intrigued about the original novels. After reading Julia Quinn’s second installment in the Bridgerton series, I much prefer this book over Daphne’s first book. The enemies to lovers trope is undoubtedly well-done. Moreover, I recommend this book to readers who enjoy romances with a slow burn and heroes/heroines who overcome trauma together. The book is never slow and full of exciting encounters. Overall, I give this book five stars in the romance category.
