Cassie, the main character in The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Bares, is an expert at reading
people. Cassie doesn’t expect this knack for understanding others to get her much until she’s
recruited to join a group of other teenagers investigating FBI cold cases. Cassie, the newest
“Natural”, lives with 4 other teens with gifts like hers. The Naturals are nothing like they seem,
and Cassie’s mentors aren’t average agents either. When a new killer strikes, Cassie and the
other Naturals face danger even closer than they expected.
The Naturals is a Criminal Minds for young adults and is exciting and action-packed.
The Naturals has suspense, romance, and crime-solving, all of which mix well.
Cassie, and most of the other Naturals, made excellent
characters, although a couple of the Naturals didn’t keep my interest. The twists were a little
predictable, but the story was enthralling and made up for its unoriginality. This book is
immensely enjoyable and leaves enough left unresolved for a sequel.
