The Catcher in the Rye is a fictional novel written by J.D. Salinger. This novel
is about a 16 year old named Holden Caufield. He gets expelled from his prep
boarding school. He is confused about how to make a way in the world. He feels
as if it is his against the world, as he struggles with his past and present, as well
as future. His parents play a major role in what he thinks about himself. He also
has many friends and girlfriends that impact him. He thinks many people are
“phonies” though. He wishes to be a role model for his sister. He has many
thoughts about his brother that is in Hollywood, and feels guilt for losing his
other brother, Allie. He wishes to live a thought out life, but conflicts in the outside
world clash with his life. He is optimistic about his future after all his experience.
He plans out what to do from there with an optimistic approach.
The most compelling aspect of this book is how he messes up in a lot of
aspects of life. I was disappointed when he starts hanging out with bad people,
and gets in trouble with using bad substances. This is since he keeps ruining his
life, and does not know what to do next, so he keeps avoiding this topic. This book
inspired me to feel how he messes up and lets his loved ones down, but does not
care to plan out what to do from there. I would recommend this book to those who
would like to see how to be inspired to be guided the right way in life. This is to see
how somebody can get better at planning after being on the wrong path in life,
due to so much confusion in the outside world as a teen. However, the language
was not very specific, and it was a little confusing to understand at times.
