A memoir of the ICarly and Sam and Cat star Jennette McCurdy shares her path to stardom and

the struggles that came with it. Starting at the age of six Jennette’s mother wanted her to

become a star so she started doing acting auditions. At a very young age her mother would do

things like put her on diets and restrictions and do cosmetic routines on her like tinting her

eyelashes which led to eating disorders and addiction. She shares that her mother had all

control of her income that she was making from acting and ended up resenting her for it. In this

memoir she uses dark humor to tell stories of her dark past. Towards the end of the book it is

shared that since she has quit acting she has embarked on the road to recovery and healing

through therapy and other outlets. I give this book a 4 out of 5 because I enjoyed reading about

her life. I did not know much about her so it was so interesting and heartbreaking at the same

time to hear about everything that she has been through. I recommend this book to anyone who

likes reading memoirs or who likes the former actor Jennette McCurdy.
