This book, though not being one of the best books I have ever read, wasn’t that bad either. It was pretty
good, just not a book that I would reread for fun. It’s about a girl named Lilly Owens who lives with her
father in a racist town. When she and her housemaid, Rosaleen get into a bit of trouble, they go on the
run away from the home Lilly was used to. Lilly uses this opportunity to try and find out more about her
mother, continuing to deny the important information she had about her mother in her mind. She ends
up staying with the Boatwright sisters who let her stay in their house in return for her helping them take
care of their beehives. Here, Lilly learns a lot about her past, the way she looks at things, and what it
means to accept and move on. The reason why I didn’t LOVE this book is just because I‘m just more
interested in genres like mystery or sci-I rather than just fiction. I did like how the author kind of showed
how racism was still present even after slavery was abolished and how people’s views can be changed
about another race. Overall, this book was a pretty good read and I recommend to those who like books
about racism, finding your place, and a touch of romance.
