Taylor Greer has spent her entire life in her small town in rural Kentucky. Wanting

desperately to get out of her repetitive, lonely life, she leaves her mother to make a trek across

the country. As she searches for a place to call home, she comes into possession of a little girl

named Turtle. The two form an unlikely bond as they find themselves in Tucson, Arizona. While

meeting new people, such as single mother Lou Ann and her disaster prone son, Dwayne Ray,

or immigrant couple Estevan and Esperanza, who find a place in Taylor’s heart, Taylor and

Turtle create a found family for themselves.

This book was absolutely amazing. It was a super emotional read and really thought

provoking. The theme of motherhood represented between Taylor, her mother, and Turtle was

heartwarming to read about. I loved all of the relationships in the book, as they’re very realistic

and so sweet to read about it. This book also talks a lot about immigration and race in America,

which made it very eye opening and confronting. I would give this book a 4.5/5
