The Passion of Dolssa is a historical fiction novel by Julie Berry about a young girl in 13th century France named Dolssa. Dolssa can speak to Jesus and is blessed with the ability to bring good luck and healing to others. She wants to spread the word and love of Jesus, but members of the church, like Friar Lucien, see her as a heretic who is trying to trick innocent people. Friar Lucien wants to burn Dolssa at the stake, like the Church did to many heretics in this time period. Dolssa is forced to run and meets Botille and her two sisters, who run an inn together. They try to hide Dolssa, but the Church has eyes everywhere, and eventually they have to run again.
I would give this book a 4/5. It was an interesting setting about a time period I haven’t seen in many books. I liked the writing style and plot, but at times it was slightly boring. It also included some words from the language of Oc, which would have been used at that time in France, which was a nice touch. I would recommend this book to everyone, especially those who like historical fiction and books with mystical elements.
