Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare is one
of the greatest playwrights of all time and one of the biggest influences on English literature,
and Romeo and Juliet is considered to be one of his greatest works. The play takes place in
Verona, where Romeo and Juliet meet each other and fall in love. This isn’t any regular love
story, however, because Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet, and the Montagues have
been in a fight with the Capulets for generations. Romeo and Juliet must try to keep their
relationship secret without anyone knowing, or else chaos will ensue and this feud will
transform into an all out war.
Shakespeare’s dialogue is notorious for being difficult to
understand, but I read this book for ELA so I had a lot of help understanding it, and I thought it
was actually pretty good. The story is surprisingly unique and interesting, despite being about
400 years old and inspiring many books and movies. The plot was interesting and the twists
were great as they unfolded. The characters were also really good too, and the chemistry
between Romeo and Juliet felt real. This book has been called a classic by many, and I can see
why now. It’s an expertly made book, and it’s truly thought-provoking.
