Summary: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is a powerful and thought-provoking young
teen novel that tells the story of Starr Carter, a 16-year-old girl who witnesses the fatal shooting
of her unarmed friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Starr is caught between two worlds:
her predominantly Black neighborhood and her predominantly white prep school. As she
grapples with grief, anger, and fear, Starr becomes an important voice for justice and racial
equality, speaking out against systemic racism and police violence. The book explores themes
of identity, activism, and the complexities of navigating racial and social divides in America,
offering readers a compelling and empathetic look into the challenges faced by Black
communities in the United States.

Opinion: One of the most compelling aspects of The Hate U Give is its ability to provide a
poignant and authentic portrayal of the contemporary African American experience, particularly
in relation to issues of racial injustice and police violence. The book has many complex
characters and thought-provoking dialogue into the narrative, making it easy to connect with the
story. Personally, I had no disappointments with the book. It evoked strong emotions and gives
you a sense of empathy. I would recommend The Hate U Give to anyone interested in
contemporary social issues, racial justice, and coming-of-age stories. It's a book that can
resonate with a wide range of people and it's particularly valuable for those looking to gain
insight into the experiences of Black individuals in America. Additionally, if you enjoy emotional
novels that tackle real-world issues, this book is definitely worth reading. I give this book a 5/5
