The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is a fiction novel that is centered around Ponyboy and his Greasers. After the death of his parents, Ponyboy is raised by his fellow Greasers, who are a gang that live in the poor part of town. While Ponyboy does not have a real family, he considers his fellow Greasers his family as they take care of him. The Greasers’ rivals, the Socs are rich and live a much better life. The Greasers and the Socs often have conflicts that often end in violence. This violence becomes apparent when Ponyboy’s friend Johnny, kills a Soc out of self defense. Thinking that they are going to go to jail, Ponyboy and Johnny flee. This journey these boys take will definitely resonate with anyone who reads this book as the book focuses on the themes of family, belonging and life experiences. The book also touches on heavier topics like death, so if you are not comfortable with those topics, I would not recommend this book. However, for those looking for a good solid read, I would definitely recommend this  book as it really left me with a bunch of emotions.
