In the current world, humans use social media as a way to break away from the real world to live in untrue experiences. The unnamed narrator of Fake Accounts plots to end her relationship with her boyfriend after a tame experience with him. The narrator, being a blogger for a website, realizes how she is stuck in a cycle where she has difficulty wanting to experience challenging activities. Present day individuals may relate, as we may want to retain the simple virtual life over conflicts and conversations that may occur in the world around us. When her boyfriend faked his death, the narrator quits her job and moves to Berlin, Germany to get away from the situation. Finding nothing to do, she retreats to her virtual world as the default.

The book discusses the effects that digital media can have on our minds. The theme is incorporated into a storyline that is not solely focused on it. It is quite unique for the author of this book to consider the plot, and not simply rely on a unique hook to get readers to read the book.  The writing may not be anything special, nothing to make you surprised. It can be a good read to some.  However, I give this book three marks from a maximum of five.
