A Taste for Love by Jennifer Yen is a quirky rom com about a girl named Liza who is desperate to find her one true love. Liza was always a big dreamer, hardworking, and smart, but her mom, Mrs. Yang, begs to disagree. Due to past circumstances with Liza dating guys who didn’t meet any of her mother’s criteria, Mrs. Yang is desperate for Liza to date a nice, smart, good looking ASIAN guy. Liza has always been against dating an Asian guy because of her mother, but because of unexpected coincidences, she starts to hang out with James Wong, who checks all her mother’s boxes. When Liza agrees to judge for her mother’s baking show (after a lot of begging from Mrs. Yang), she finds out that it’s a hoax and that all the contestants are Asian boys who her mom handpicked. Liza, now against her mother, swears she will never date a guy her mom chooses, but as she starts getting to know James, she’s confused about her feelings and what she thought she knew was love, actually wasn’t. She starts to learn that love can come unexpectedly to you with someone you least expect.
This is one of my favorite books of all time! If you like comical and cute romance books, then this is just the book for you. For me, this book is my comfort book and every time I read it, I gush. I love how the author adds detailed descriptions of every scene because I can envision it perfectly in my head. The writing is so good and well written that you’ll get lost in the words and won’t put the book down until you’ve finished. The tropes are sort of cliché, but they are still so cute and humorous that this book will definitely be one of your favorites. I highly recommend this book. I think I’ve read it about 5 times and could still read it another 100 times. The characters and their relationships are so sweet, and the character development really shows how people can grow and blossom. Overall, I rate this book a 5 out of 5.
