Mockingjay is the final book in the trilogy called The Hunger Games. It shows Katniss’s capability when it came to looking out for an entire nation rather than just herself. She becomes the symbol of the rebellion, providing a way for the districts to fight back. Katniss sacrifices her life for the future of the districts. She allows a chance for victims of the capitol to speak up. This revolutionary period happens over the course of this book. At the end of Catching Fire, Katniss and a few of the other remaining tributes are rescued from the Games. It is revealed that some of the others were involved in this, including Finnick, Johanna, Plutarch and Haymitch. While it takes some time for Katniss to adjust to this very new and different situation, she finds that Peeta and Johanna are being tortured back in the capitol. Many people are relying on Katniss to pull herself together and help fuel the sparks of the rebellion. Despite being a teenager that was ripped from her home and forced to fight to the death, not once, but twice, it is inevitable that she would have trauma. Katniss is forced to make big decisions that could change the future lives of those in Panem, and every choice leading up to the end could result in a different outcome.
I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. While it wasn’t as compelling as the first two, it gives insight on the making behind the rebellion, and it is a huge part of the series. It provides a strong and happy ending, although I do think that a few of the deaths were completely unnecessary to the plot and shouldn’t have been included. The ending isn’t the best thing that could have happened, but it wraps up the series in a well and realistic way. I would recommend this book to all of those who enjoyed the first two books in the series.
