Kya Clark has lost more than most people will ever lose in a lifetime. Her abusive father’s violence left her mother, brothers, and sisters with no other choice than to leave young Kya with a madman. After they all left, her father calmed down and even cared about her, but only to return to his habits of drinkin again, and he left, leaving Kya all alone in the marsh. Kya becomes one with the marsh, learning about it and studying it. Years later, Kya meets Tate, one of her brother's friends who she falls in love with, but after he leaves, Kya returns to learning more about her first love, the marsh, until Chase Andrews comes along. Chase is intrigued by Kya and they fall in love, just like Kya did with Tate just years ago. People seem to know a bit about this secret, so when Chase is found dead under a firetower in the marsh, people suspect it was foul play carried out by Kya. The marsh girl is being singled out again, just like she was when she went to school for one day and the kids made fun of her.
This book is so deserving of all of the honors it has. It makes you think, while still being a light read, it is a mystery and romance at the same time, and it makes readers think about life and organisms in a place besides their home. This book is absolutely amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who lives and breathes! It is that good!!! Delia Owens, please write another book!!!
