SPOILERS AHEAD: This is the 3rd book in the series (The Lunar Chronicles), so spoilers for the 1st, 2nd, and (minor) 3rd books ahead.
*sigh* The Lunar Chronicles was a childhood favorite of mine, and now while I’m rereading it, I definitely see its magic (and faults too). Cress is by far my favorite of the series, but it has its pitfalls.
In Cress, we rejoin the good old crew, but they soon get split up after attempting to rescue Cress, this world’s version of Rapunzel. Despite these events, the ticking of the countdown to Kai’s marriage to Levana is racing towards zero, and everyone: Cinder, Iko, Scarlet, Wolf, Thorne, and Cress are perhaps Earth’s last hope.
CRESS AND THORNE HAVE MY HEART. That’s about as much as I can say. This book was just amazing, and even on reread, this book still manages to hold up pretty decently. Is it the most artful book ever written? No. Does it take itself too seriously? No. Was it a super entertaining and fun heist book with a *chef’s kiss* romance? YES. Obviously, it’s a YA fairytale retelling, so it’s gonna be a little guessable and archetype-y, but it’s a fun time. (The only major gripe I had with the book was 1: it’s length, and 2: how easy the crew got reunited.) All I can say is read it- if not for the heist then for the absolutely loveable characters of Cress and Thorne. Bottom line: Cress and Thorne are the all time best love interests in any YA novel.
