The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a film adaptation of the novel written by Suzanne Collins. The plot of this film follows the rise of Coriolanus Snow, the ruthless president in The Hunger Games series that is set to take place around 65 years after the plot of this film. Coriolanus lives in the Capitol and is graduating during the time of the tenth Hunger Games. As part of their graduation, Coriolanus’s classmates are all tasked with mentoring the tributes for the games with the best mentor getting the opportunity to win the famous Plinth Prize, an award that Coriolanus has wanted for a very long time. Consequently, Coriolanus takes this task very seriously, and when he is tasked with mentoring the female tribute from District 12, his desire to win only grows.
This film was extremely enthralling and suspenseful. Having watched The Hunger Games, going into this movie knowing the ultimate fate of Coriolanus made it even more surprising that I found myself appreciating his intelligence. The fact that all of the characters in this film are so complex and likable in intriguing ways makes it even more of a nail-biter and overall it makes this movie a must-watch if you’ve read or watched the other The Hunger Games movies. All in all, I would definitely recommend this movie to people who have watched any of The Hunger Games movies but I would also recommend this to anyone who needs something to watch just because of how enthralling it is
